50 Great Teachers: Teachers That Are Ally’s

Okay, so after reading this article, this one, and this one, my idea of what a teacher as ally is is only being more and more justified. A teacher that is an ally is someone who stands up for their students, protects them, builds them up, empowers them; someone who is on their team. All of the teachers in these articles are absolutely ally’s; these are the type of teachers that students will talk about for the rest of their lives. Okay, of course I want to be that teacher for two reasons; my ego and the students education. Surprise, I want to be liked and remembered by people, I’m human, we all want that. But also, every student has that one teacher who completely changed their life and who they will talk about forever, that teacher is an ally. That teacher is Lisa Elder, Aziz Royesh, or Whaley. These are teachers that spend their lives working to better others. These are teachers that go out of their way to make sure their students are comfortable and learning something. They are the teachers that make their student’s life’s better simply because they care and they spend a little extra time making sure each student knows that. That is what a teacher as ally is.

  1. I totally feel you on wanting to be remembered! My teacher as an ally was Mr. Murphy and hope more than anything I can be someone else’s Mr. Murphy. He definitely fits your definition in that he spends his life trying to better other peoples’. Teacher as an ally means that we don’t focus on ourselves and try to be remembered but somehow we get remembered in the process because of the great things we do for our students.
